Is there anything that expresses freedom better than skydiving does? I don’t know about you, but to me, there isn’t. It’s the closest we can get to flying and that speaks for itself. Of course there’s wingsuit diving, but that’s for real daredevils (insane human beings, that is). That’s probably one of the many extreme sports I wouldn’t dare to try, but then again, you know what the wise Bieber says…never say never! (in case you didn’t catch it, there was sarcasm all over that last sentence; just making sure…) Though now that I think about it, I’m probably never going to do it.
Anyway, back to what I was saying…
I may not be the most active person around, at all, but I do love sports. And roller coasters. The adrenaline that you get from both is amazing and I believe everybody should experience that feeling once in a while, just not to get lost in the boredom of the daily routine and life’s not-so-fun events. Of course, there’s different ways of experiencing such feelings. On a scale from couch-potatoing to wingsuitdiving, I think I’m probably half way. The people who know me would probably be laughing at this, because, like I mentioned, I’m not the most athletic girl in the neighborhood, but I love adrenaline. Lately, however, I’ve had to settle with scary movies, which don’t even scare me much, so my adrenal glands are probably in the process of turning into stone right now. But I can hear my heart racing every time I watch other people doing something extreme. This is the reason behind my weird youtube history of country music videos and skydiving GoPro shots. Both make me feel better and keep me smiling (and singing) for a while.
Skydiving has been on the top of my bucket list for as long as I can remember. I can’t wait to do my first tandem jump and see the video of me screaming my lungs out. And once I’m done with that, I want to get my certificate so that I’ll be able to jump as many times as I want, whenever and wherever I want. Pretty awesome life goal if you ask me.
About a year ago, I found this video that has been on my favorites list ever since. In a few words, it’s the video of this group of guys that went to Dubai in 2012, booked a helicopter and spent a couple of days jumping down over the city. The view from up there is crazy. Nothing like the one you get from a simple helicopter ride a few meters about sea level. Nope. This is completely different. YOU’RE FLYING! You are free. You can move around, do whatever and enjoy a premium view of that amazing oasis in the desert. It’s fantastic. Every single time I watch that video, I can’t help but smile. It’s a weird muscle reflex. Even writing about it makes me smile. I might look creepy, but luckily there’s none around to witness this.
The editing of the video is top notch. Music included. The same guys went to Dubai to do the same thing the previous year, in 2011, so this is part 2 of their experience. I love the other video too, but I love this one a little better. Watch it and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Like I said, I think everybody should try to do something crazy at least once in their lifetime. You might realize that you were better off with a diaper before you went for it, but you sure won’t regret it once it’s over and you feel the endorphins running through your body. For as cheesy as it sounds, it is true that we only got only life and we better enjoy it before it’s too late.
If I were to make a spin-off of Steve Jobs’ famous quote, mine would be “Be grateful, be crazy” (and maybe with a side note that says “grow a pair”).
