Starting The Year Right

Happy New Year, dear readers!

Once again, I’ve been MIA for a while, but as you might already know if you read my previous post, I’ve been backpacking again so time and wifi have been limited.

Buyana and I have started our adventure in Malaysia, where we spent Christmas, followed by Singapore, where we spent NYE and then Palawan, Philippines, where we have been fully enjoying the start of 2016. By the time we get back home it will be a month since we left and once again, just like last year in May, it seems like time has flown by. It seems like it was yesterday that we were walking around Singapore, exploring the city and enjoying some local delicacies… and now here we are, on our second to last stop before the end comes.

Most of our time in Palawan was spent in El Nido, a stunning little hidden town in the north of Palawan that will make you want to cry the moment you leave it. Trust me. The beach, the locals, the snorkelling, the water, the boats, the weather, the town…I could have stayed there for another week, at least!

We also stopped by Coron, an island up north, a 6-hour boat ride from El Nido. It’s famous for its diving as there are plenty of shipwrecks from WWII, but as we ran out of time to do¬†our PADI certification there, we just did a snorkelling tour of the island’s highlights. I loved the tours we did in El Nido, but Coron was just gorgeous! The marine life was rather vibrant and the places were so diverse from each other. We really loved it!

Now we have only got a few days in Puerto Princesa to do a trip or two before we go back to Manila and we part ways.

I definitely want to come back to the Philippines. There are SO many amazing places to see and things to do — hiking¬†around the volcano, working on a tan in Cebu and Boracay, swim with whale sharks, etc. Argh, so much to see, so little time!

It’s going to be weird being back home in Vietnam, but deep down I’m excited about it. I will have some free time to do some thinking and planning about my next trip…or who knows, maybe even residence? Time will tell. The year has just begun.

Happy travels and until the next update!
